7.3.5 Clamp Diode Structure
The open-drain outputs to this device have negative clamping diodes only as depicted in Figure 7-3, and the
push-pull outputs to this device have both positive and negative clamping diodes as depicted in Figure 7-4. The
inputs to this device have both positive and negative clamping diodes as depicted in both previously referenced
figures.
CAUTION
Voltages beyond the values specified in the Absolute Maximum Ratings table can cause damage
to the device. The input and output voltage ratings may be exceeded if the input and output clamp-
current ratings are observed.

7.4 Device Functional Modes
Table 7-1 lists the functional modes of the SN74ACT596-Q1. Outputs QA – QH are open-drain. Open-drain
outputs drive low when in the low (L) state, and enter the high-impedance (Z) state when set to the high (H)
state.
